Last night I was lucky enough to see Alice in Wonderland at the Royal Opera House, This new ballet created by Christopher Wheeldon was nothing short of breathtaking. It was cleaver, whitty and completely smothered in fun!
I left feeling quite enchanted.
Before I went to see it I made an effort not to read any reviews or hear anyone's opinion of it, so I would have a clear mind about it, and I am so glad too!
My godmother is head of scenic department (very proud goddaughter!) so I had seen her drawings of the scenery back in October, but to see them completed was really quite spectacular, it's so strange seeing something as a simple sketch and then completed as an incredible work of art, some people really are amazing.
My favorite scene of the evening was the Croquet scene in the Queen of Hearts garden, it was filled with humor and spark, the colors where amazing.
It was lovely to see Lauren Cuthbertson dance, as she's one of the only principals I hadn't seen yet, she was charming and absolutely perfect for Alice, she's just so lovely to watch, very lucid/dreamy.
Edward Watson was stunning, as he always is.
BUT my all time favorite was definitely Zenaida! She made a brilliant Queen of Hearts.
and of course Joby Talbot has done an amazing job as i think everyone knew he would, I loved Chroma but really wasn't expecting Alice to be so breathtaking...
Absolutely worth seeing if you can.
